Are you suggesting their psychoactivity? 😉 My guess is that these are Leccinum versipelle, good edible mushrooms. However, I wouldn’t eat them either – mushrooms absorb radioactive elements quite readily. I remember that when I used to go picking mushrooms with my mum in the early 90s, so not so long after the disaster – and we live in Poland, so also rather close to the danger zone – she often said for example that it’s actually not a good idea to pick Xerocomus mushrooms (another group of good edible species, my favorites – I value them higher that the King Bolete) because they absorb cesium and at that time “everyone knew” that it’s better to be careful because we may be exposed to some nasty radiation…
When I grew up collecting mushrooms was a common thing to do in Germany – that changed quite a bit after Chernobyl and I remember that we were told for years not to collect mushrooms or buy mushrooms grown in eastern European countries. I guess that changed a lot, nevertheless I would stay away from mushrooms that actually grew in Chernobyl. (Though the ones from Pripyat must me way more dangerous in average!)
