I lived here in the late 60s to early 70s
So did I. Bldg 322 Apt 1.. went to school in Quonset huts just a little past, and down a short hill from the AYA.
The tire swing, the HUGE field full of pickup baseball and football games.. the firecracker fights… 25 cent movies, using our dog tags to get on Pioneer because we were too young for an ID card.
1969 – 1972
I lived there from 1985- Nov 1989 when the Berlin wall came down. Its a same to see it abandoned and I hope they don’t tear it down, that was and is like a second home. It was amazing to see it still the same way it was back in Nov 1989, the year I left for Kansas.
Served here 1976 1977 81st maintenance co.
You missed a picture that would be significant to kids that grew up here. Sidewalk goes up a hill from the parking lot in front of Bldg 322.. on top of the hill the sidewalk goes to the right, and in that corner was a rope swing off of a very tall tree. Kids would line up for hours for their turn on the swing.
1990 the swing was gone, hadn’t been replaced, but the generations of kids that had swung on that tree left bare ground worn of any type of soil. 1990 there was no swing, but the hillside was still bare, no signs of life, where so many lives had lived.
Lived there from 1958/1963 building that bordered quintet hut school. Fireworks and Gummi bears. High school about 1 mile away over railroad bridge. Next door to main gate and shop that sold cookoo clocks.
I lived there from 1959-1961 in the building right across from the recreation center. I don’t remember the building number, but we lived in apartment 18. I went to 4th and 5th grades in the Quonset huts. I loved living in Germany, I was never bored.
