This looks like my actual barracks where I lived: Cco 440th Signal Bn….”Charlie Company Cobras” my room was through the front door; turn right 1st room on the right.
Those barracks were pretty huge – I guess it was a lucky shot I took. I hope you had a good time in Darmstadt!
I was also in Charlie CO. in 1971-1973. Room was on the top floor.
Building on the left was Charlie and Delta company Headquarters and barracks for the 440th Signal Battalion. I was in Headquarters and in Alpha Company of the 440th. (I was stationed there twice from ’82 to ’85 and again from ’87 to ’88). Headquarters and Headquarters Company along with Alpha and Bravo Companies were in the building to the left of the one you see here on your left.
When standing in front of and looking at Headquarters and Headquarters/ Alpha /Bravo Company buildings/barracks, the baseball field was to your left about 300 meters or so.
Up the hill/stairs to your right was the Motor Pool for Charlie/Delta Company of the 440th Signal Battalion.
When I was there in 1971-1973 that was Charlie and Alpha Company motor pool.
I can’t tell you how many hours I spent digging moss and grass from that stone. All that hard work for nothing i guess :). D co 440th 1992-1994
The way it looks now I think you’d be busy for the rest of the year… 😉
stationed there with HHC 15th Ordnance Battalion in ’71 and ’72.
This is exactly where we would line up for formation in front of the building, and our motor pool was just behind us.
1980-83 – the best time to be there, the dollar exchange was at it’s optimum. The best days and worst days of my life were seared and sealed right here.
Alpha Company 1980-83 formation in the front and motor pool to our backs. Some of the best and worst days of my life were sealed and seared here, back then our dollar was very strong and we lived it up just right….it was awesome
