Site 8 was staffed/manned/secured by the 601st SPS out of Sembach AB in the mid-to-late 70’s. I was there 76-78 and spent more than a few tours there as a member of “A” Flight, and also delivered more than a few meals there while assigned to “Police 4”.
I was stationed there 77-78. I’m thinking it was D Flight under TSGT Gary Fuller – Flight Chief. ?? Hated to walk Site 8 in the snow but loved the beauty and silence of the walk. Ran across a letter I posted (from Sembach) to my wife in the states (1977); it mentions that the SPS had crashed three vehicles since the first snow – two coming back from “Site 8.” I recall the local construction folks coming through the gate to expand the site….. a case of bier in one hand and dynamite in the other. It was a different day, my brother. : ]
