Recently I’ve been on a trip to Europe and of course I couldn’t resist to do some urban exploration outside of Japan for the first time. This posting is just a teaser, but there will be more pictures soon. Lots of them. Maybe you can guess where I went?
(Or you can find out where the picture was taken by *clicking here*.)
Awesome piucture, Flo.
Thanks – it was exactly the shot I wanted to take and I was very excited when I actually took it. There will be plenty more soon, some of them quite spectacular!
Hi !
Is it berlin ?
Nice pic, nice colors .
Wich camera ?
Thanks, it’s one of my favorite shots of the ferris wheel – I’ll post a horizontal one soon that looks almost equally good. I take all my pictures with a Nikon D90 – most of them with the 18-200mm kit lens, this one was taken with a 11-16mm Tokina lens.
Oh, and it’s not in Berlin – I wanted to go there, too, but I didn’t have enough time.
Is the location in a former soviet state? I know there are a lot of abandoned and decaying places to explore there.
Another good location for ruins in Europe I believe is near the Polish border; apparently there are lots of old mansions there to explore.
Yeah, it’s in a former Soviet state and it’s actually a very, very famous location. I think all over Eastern Europe you can spend a lifetime exploring abandoned buildings. In the former GDR I found several former military airports the Russians abandoned when they left in the 90s, but I didn’t have time to explore any of them. I really hope people will be able to take pictures before the places get torn down / decay too much.
I was there in April. Incredibly overcast, and that yellow…seat…thing wasn’t there, it was over to the right of the photo, laying next to the grass.
I’ve seen several photos taken from the same spot (and took one myself ;)) and it’s interesting to see how it moves in all of them…
I was actually very happy about the weather around the time I went there. Shortly before there was a heat wave with temperatures up to 38 degrees – it would have been horrible to shoot under those conditions. I think the seat thing was from the swingboat between the bumper cars and the merry-go-round. Walking around the area there are lots of places where photographers put objects in position.
Wow nice. It was probably about 10 degrees when I was there. Very rarely have I felt that cold.
I’ve always held an interest, and always look up photos of the area. It’s amazing at how much it changes, just from the people going in.
Yeah, urban exploration is quite uncomfortable when it’s too hot or too cold… How much time did you spend in the area?
I was actually surprised by how much destruction was done to some of the places; way more vandalism than I thought there would be. Nevertheless by far the most fascinating location I’ve ever been to!
is this Chernobyl?
It’s very close to Chernobyl – it’s the famous ferris wheel of the “amusement park” in Pripyat.
Nice, its Pripyat. I was there back in March and spent 4 days in the zone. What a truly amazing place!!!
I am heading to Japan in a couple weeks to do some exploring and would love to hit up some of the places you have shot. That dreamland is amazing!!! I would love to shoot that.
Wow, I wish I had four days, too… only two for me, but nevertheless an unforgetable experience. Drop me a line before you come to Japan if you want to – maybe we can explore a place or two together. (Except for Dreamland – right now I have no urge to go back there; but it’s easy to find…)
Any more photos from your trip into the zone? Can’t tease us with just one photo.
Ill drop you a line next week before I leave, any other way to contact each other besides the site? I don’t see any email option on it.
Oh, there are hundreds of photos from my trip to the zone, but I’m still selecting and writing… Maybe I’ll celebrate the one year anniversary of the blog by declaring January “Zone of Alienation” month with an update every three of four days. Would be a waste to limit myself to one or two postings.
You can find my e-mail address on the “About” page – I added “Contact” to make it more clear for everybody.
Just happened upon your blogsite; awesome so far as I’ve seen. Keep it up! The ferris wheel kind of reminds me of the abandoned on in Pripyat (Chernobyl)
Thanks, Scott!
And that’s actually the one… More pictures will follow in January!
